Hamas, fourth Canadian victim and two missing
TORONTO – A Canadian-Israeli girl, 22-year-old Shir Georgy, is the fourth victim of the ambush set up by Hamas militants at the “Tribe of Nova” music festival near Kibbutz Re’im, in southern Israel.
Georgy was the eldest of three children. Her mother grew up in Montreal and later moved to Israel. “Shir was the light of her house. She was a sweet, gentle, amazing girl that always loved and respected everybody around her. She loved to live,” Sivane Dahan, the girl’s cousin, told Global News after the young’s death was confirmed by Georgy’s uncle, Michal Bouganim, on social networks: “My family received the terrible news. It is with great sadness and a broken heart that we announce the murder of our beloved Shir…”.
Meanwhile, there is great concern about other Canadian-Israelis who disappeared after the Hamas attacks: a Toronto woman and her husband, Judih Weinstein (70 years old, former English teacher) and Gad Haggai (72 years old), have been missing for a week, according to what was reported by the daughter Iris Haggai Liniado, who lives in Singapore with her husband and three children. “We have no idea if they were kidnapped in Gaza. We don’t know” Iris said to CTV.
Her parents were taking a morning walk near Kibbutz Nir Oz, their home for nearly three decades in southern Israel, on October 7, when Hamas terrorists began launching rockets over Israel. In a WhatsApp chat shortly thereafter, Weinstein wrote to her children: “We are lying face down in the fields. Rockets are whizzing overhead. We see hundreds of them”. Then, she sent a video flares to another group chat with some English teachers. After this, silence. “This is apparently the last recording of their voices,” said chat member Adele Reamer.
The only information daughter Iris could find was that provided by paramedics at Kibbutz Nir Oz: they said her mother called for help, saying she had been shot and her husband was seriously injured. Nothing more. And now there is a lot of fear.
