Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of July 8, 2021, at 4:45pm EST.

For the last two days in a row, health officials in the UK logged over 32,000 new infections, numbers not seen since January. Of the cumulative 5 million confirmed positive cases, 86.6% are considered recovered. Since yesterday, Covid-related deaths increased by 35, brining total fatalities to 128,336.

Today in Ontario 210 new infected and 4 new deaths

TORONTO – July 8, 2021: Canada stood today at 1,419,114 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 608 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – today reached 26,404 total deaths, 19 more than Wednesday. In Canada today the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 1,387,153. Ontario today reached 546,411 overall positives, an increase of 210 new cases compared to Wednesday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile remained to 9,228, with 4 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 535,577 or 231 more than the previous 24 hours.

Half of Ontario adults now vaccinated with second dose

TORONTO – Ontario’s mass immunization campaign against Covid-19 continues unabated. The provincial government today announced an important milestone reached in the last few hours: one in two adults in the province has already received the first and second dose of vaccine. During a press conference Christine Elliott, together with Sollicitor Genral Sylvia Jones, reiterated that the vaccination campaign is not only meeting the timetable foreseen by the executive, but that even the numbers are higher than those budgeted.
