Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.

On Thursday, health officials in Russia logged 19,594 new infections. Of the cumulative 7.2 million confirmed positive cases, 89.4% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, Covid-related deaths increased by 794, bringing the total number of fatalities to 195,835.
TORONTO – Everyone’s mind is made up. The advance polls are closed. More citizens have voted than expected – 5,780,000 according to the latest Elections Canada estimate (an average of just over 17,100 per constituency) than in past elections. In fact, that represents an 18.48% increase over the turn out at the advance polls in the last election. →
TORONTO – It is alarming. With the beginning of the school year, Covid infections are skyrocketed, which with the last 109 today have abundantly exceeded 500. There are 98 cases among students attending schools in Ontario, 8 among teachers and 3 non-teaching staff members infected with the Delta variant of the virus, which bring infections to 585. →
EDMONTON – The Alberta government is running for cover. Faced with the continuous increase in hospitalizations in intensive care, now collapsing, Prime Minister Jason Kenney had to abandon the slogan “stay open for good” and turn around: very hard restrictions starting immediately. →
TORONTO – More than 800 new cases of Covid-19, today, in Ontario. But also many tests, more than 34 thousand, the highest number since the beginning of June. The positivity rate therefore remains low (at 2.4%, yesterday it was 2.5%) and in any case down from 3.1% last week. →
