Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.

On Tuesday, health officials in Greece logged 3,739 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 700,000. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 93.5% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, Covid-related deaths increased by 29, bringing the total number of fatalities to 15,447.
TORONTO – Hope, to eradicate Covid-19 among children, is placed in the vaccine. This was reiterated today – just a day after Pfizer formally asked Health Canada to approve its vaccine for use in children between the ages of five and 11 – by Health Minister Christine Elliott. As soon as the green light arrives, Elliott said clearly, we will be “ready to go”: “We are actively working with public health units to draw up a plan for the administration of the vaccine, we will be ready – as soon as it is approved by Health Canada – to distribute it and make it available to children throughout the province – said the minister – I know that parents are worried but they do not have to be because we will be ready, we are actively working on this and are in the process of finalizing the plan right now.” →
TORONTO – 328 infections today, 373 Monday, 443 Sunday: the descent of the Covid-19 infections in Ontario continues. And the positivity rate drops: today 20,800 tests were processed against 20,432 on Monday and the positivity fell further from 1.8% to 1.5%. The moving average of new daily cases calculated over seven days also falls, from 416 to 407 today (a week ago it was at 525). →
EDMONTON – Historic turning point in “ultra-conservative” Alberta: in the two main cities of the province, a woman (in Calgary, for the first time) and a Sikh immigrant from India (in Edmonton, for the first time) were elected mayors. →
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) opens Ontario’s first Monoclonal Antibody Therapy Clinic. It is the first of its kind in the province, dedicated to treating outpatients with Covid-19 who are at a greater risk of severe illness, complications and hospitalization.
