Covid, other schools closed. Over 8,000 cases in Ontario

TORONTO – Covid-19 infections in Ontario schools have skyrocketed to over 8000 – 8,095 to be precise. As well as in the whole community, even in schools the cases of the dreaded virus are constantly increasing: according to the latest data reported on the website of the Ontario government last Friday, within the last twenty-four years the new infections have stood at 172 of which 152 have affected students while the schools with at least one case of Covid-19 have been 792, those closed since last week’s peak of 16 have dropped to 9.

On Sunday, health officials in Russia logged 32,602 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 9.8 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 86.1% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 1,206 Covid-related deaths for a total of 281,278 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Heightened public health concerns as Omicron is on the move

Health officials are raising the alarm as the Covid-19 variant Omicron has more than thirty mutations. Researchers are suggesting it is spreading twice as fast as the Delta variant.

Some medical experts theorize that Omicron has picked up genetic material from other viruses that cause the common cold, potentially making this strain more transmissible. While many unknowns remain with the new variant, people’s fears and anxieties have grown over the severity of accompanying illness and how lethal Omicron may be.

Ontario, a thousand Covid-cases a day over the weekend

TORONTO – Weekend to forget in Ontario: for the third consecutive day, the province has in fact recorded over 1,000 new cases of Covid-19, with the count of infections reaching the highest level since the end of May. The provincial health officials in fact detected 1,184 infections today, compared to 1,053 on Saturday and 1,031 on Friday. We have to go back to 28 May to find a greater number of cases than today: at that time, the infections had been 1,273.
