TORONTO – Just so that no-one gets the wrong impression, I am considered fully vaccinated for Covid-19, and have already had the now seemingly obligatory booster for greater efficacy. Nor am I ideologically or philosophically an “ant-vaxxer”. Neither I nor the Corriere are in the business of disseminating bad information, untruths or conspiracy theories – especially as they relate to the health and wellbeing of the population, irrespective of race, colour, sex, age.

On Wednesday, health officials in Germany logged 41,816 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 7.1 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 83.6% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 381 Covid-related deaths for a total of 112,133 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.
TORONTO – Covid-19 in Ontario, a new record broken: the province today recorded 10,436 new cases (and 3 deaths), surpassing the previous record-count of December 25 (10,412). But the actual infections in Ontario could be more than double: the laboratories have in fact processed 59,259 samples and 74,535 remain in the research phase. Not only that: simply booking a molecular test appointment in the Toronto area is now a real challenge, so many people with symptoms can’t even get tested. →

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 26.8 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on December 29, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 176,349 vaccine doses on Tuesday, down from 144,705 doses the day prior.
