Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of January 20, 2022, at 6:15 pm EST.

On Thursday, health officials in Poland logged 32,835 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 4.4 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 86.5% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 315 Covid-related deaths for a total of 103,378 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Mississauga residents are still recovering after digging out of the first major snowfall in 2022. During the weekly press conference, Mayor Bonnie Crombie confirmed that many parts of the city experienced an accumulation of 45 cm of snow, the most in a single day since 1944. While residents went straight to work digging out their driveways and walkways, many would have to wait days until city plows dug out their street. →

Ontario: children at school but teachers are absent

TORONTO – The students returned to the classrooms on Wednesday but a large number of teachers remained at home. It is an emergency in the school boards of the GTA that are rushing to hire substitutes to replace absent teachers due to, they say, “the high number of infections or contacts with people infected with Covid-19”.
