Ottawa, the police evict the “Freedom Convoy”

TORONTO – The watchword is “don’t let your guard down”. Despite the removal of trucks and protesters from the streets of Ottawa over the weekend, a large police presence still remains in the capital. “This is not a normal situation for our city – said interim police chief Steve Bell – despite the successes of recent days, we still need these measures to prevent the return of illegal protesters. We promised earlier last week that we would clear our streets and return them to our residents, we promised that we would return our city to a state of normality and we are getting closer and closer to this goal.”

On Monday, health officials in Russia logged 152,337 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 15.5 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 80.5% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 735 Covid-related deaths for a total of 346,235 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Covid-19 in Ontario: deaths, hospitalizations and the rate of positivity are decreasing

TORONTO – Covid-19 hospitalizations in Ontario and the rest of Canada are falling significantly. The trend of the last few weeks is therefore confirmed, negative only in terms of deaths: their number in fact has always been high and only in the last few days has there been a sharp decline – both in Ontario and Quebec – which, hopefully, will be confirmed in the week just started. But let’s go in order and let’s start from Ontario.

A grand send-off for a final goodbye to Fr Vito Marziliano

TORONTO – There was a relatively large crowd of friends, parishioners past and present, and family to bid Fr. Vito an ADDIO on Saturday. Covid-19 protocols being what they are, restrictions still applied. Nonetheless, people flocked to St Clare, Woodbridge for the funeral. Fr Vito had never been assigned there, but a smaller church would have been insufficient and inadequate for the numbers present.
