Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of January 10, 2022, at 4:45 pm EST.

On Monday, health officials in Italy logged 101,762 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 7.5 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 71.8% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 227 Covid-related deaths for a total of 139,265 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Ontario, parents boycott distance learning

TORONTO – Alberta and British Columbia – unlike Ontario and other provinces – do not stop in front of the constantly increasing number of Covid cases and continue quickly with their school reopening plan. Since today all the students have returned to their classes. “Experts across Canada and around the world continue to emphasize the importance of face-to-face learning to preserve the overall health of our children and youth,” Alberta Education Minister Adriana LaGrange said at a press conference.

Ontario, nearly 2,500 in hospital for Covid. 120 deaths in Quebec over the past four days

TORONTO – The number of people in Ontario hospitals with COVID-19 continues to rise, with 438 patients now in intensive care. According to the Ministry of Health, another 26 people have entered intensive care due to the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours. Of these patients, 234 breathe with the assistance of a ventilator. There are now 2,467 Covid-19 patients in hospital, a slight increase from Sunday.  Continue reading

MANILA – Ang Pilipinas na umaasa sa Turisimo upang iagat ang ekonomia nang bayan ay mabigat na tinamaan nang pandemia. Trabaho na may kinalaman sa turisimo ay tinamaan nang malaking nang 28% porsento. Samantala ang trabahong por ora ay tinamaan pababa nang 38%. Nasa Pilipinas ako noong Marzo 2020 nang pumutok ang pandemia. Kita good kita ko agad ang pag ka walang turista sa paligig nang Maynila. Ang paniwalang na ang pandemia ay nag simula sa Asia, halos lahat umiiwas sa kontinent no ito.

Tourism Hard Hit by Pandemic

MANILA – The Philippines which relies on tourism to boost its economy is hit hard by the pandemic. Tourism-related employment in this Far East country shrank by 28 percent, while average hourly wage declined by 38%. I was in the Philippines last March 2020 when the pandemic broke out. And I noticed the absence of tourists in Metro Manila. The perception seemed to be that with the source of Covid 19 being in Asia, no one wanted to be in that continent.
