Who is Mary Simon, named 30th governor general of Canada
TORONTO – Mary Simon (in the pic) is Canada’s new Governor General. This was announced today by Justin Trudeau, who, with the appointment of the Queen’s new representative, wanted to send out a very precise political signal. Simon is in fact an Inuk leader, representative of the indigenous peoples of Canada and his appointment comes at a time of general rethinking of the history of our country, in particular the federal government’s treatment of Aboriginal people in the past. RSF projects 37 heads of state as predators of press freedom
Toronto, July 6: The international press advocacy organization, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is planning to publish a gallery of grim portraits of 37 heads of state or government who crack down massively on press freedom. Some of these “predators of press freedom” have been operating for more than two decades while others have just joined the blacklist, which for the first time includes two women and a European predator. For the first time in the history of Canada, an indigenous person is called to fill the role of governor general: she is Mary Simon, Inuk leader and former diplomat.
