G20: “Ensure that ultra-high-net-worth individuals are effectively taxed”. Here the Leaders’ Declaration

RIO DE JANEIRO – Twenty-two pages to reiterate, in 85 points, the commitment “to building a just world and a sustainable planet, while leaving no one behind” …maybe even taxing the super-rich properly. The final declaration adopted by the leaders of the G20, which concluded today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, arrived after a difficult mediation between the diplomacies of such different countries and often with such distant positions (ranging from the USA to Russia via Argentina, India and China, to name a few). A mediation carried out by the Brazilian presidency which made everyone agree at least on the global alliance against fame and poverty, the Task Force on global mobilization against climate change and the call to action on governance reform global.  (more…)

CORRIERE CANADESE / 48 milioni di dollari per rimuovere tre piste ciclabili: farle era costato 27 milioni

TORONTO – La rimozione di tre (3) piste ciclabili a Toronto “costerà almeno 48 milioni di dollari”: lo afferma un rapporto della Città di Toronto pubblicato mercoledì (potete leggerlo integralmente qui), dopo che il governo dell’Ontario ha introdotto – il 21 ottobre scorso – una legislazione per rimuovere le piste ciclabili su Bloor Street, University Avenue e Yonge Street (per un totale di 20,2 chilometri: le piste ciclabili a Toronto coprono in totale 270,9 chilometri di strade, stando al network status del Comune, aggiornato al 2022). The City of Toronto: “$48 million to remove three bike lanes”. Building them had cost $ 27 million

TORONTO – The removal of three (3) cycle lanes in Toronto “will cost at least 48 million dollars”: this is stated in a City of Toronto report published on Wednesday (you can read it here), after the Ontario government introduced – on October 21st – a legislation to remove the bike lanes on Bloor Street, University Avenue and Yonge Street (for a total of 20.2 kilometres: the bike lanes in Toronto cover a total of 270 .9 kilometers of roads, according to the network status of the Municipality, updated on 2022). An elimination necessary, according to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, to at least partially eliminate traffic jams in the city.  (more…)

Ports, the federal government stops the strikes

OTTAWA – Stop the strikes in the major Canadian ports of Quebec and British Columbia: the federal Labor Minister, Steven MacKinnon, decided it today, imposing a “final and binding arbitration” on the parties. Port workers had been abstaining from work for several days, as unions and employers had failed to reach an agreement: workers at the port of Montreal had taken the picket lines on Sunday evening, joining their colleagues already on strike at the British Columbia.  (more…)
