Covid-19: 14 more deaths in Ontario, 12% positivity
TORONTO – Covid-19: in the last 24 hours in Ontario hospitalizations have dropped slightly, from 639 to 611 (and from 179 to 174 in intensive care) but the number of deaths remains high: today another 14 victims bringing the total of the province, from the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,356.
The province also recorded 2,149 new cases of Covid-19 today, out of a total of 15,702 tests (reserved only for “at risk” categories) processed: the province’s positivity rate is about 12%. In the Greater Toronto Area, 467 new cases were detected in Toronto, 166 in the Peel region, 129 in the Durham region, 110 in the Halton region and 101 in the York region. 111 new cases were also reported in Hamilton and 110 in Simcoe Muskoka. All other areas recorded fewer than 100 new cases. 34 infections affect residents and 9 employees of long-term care facilities across Ontario: 65 are still active in an outbreak. The active and known cases are, officially, 16,270, but with tests limited to certain categories only, this number is inevitably far from reality.
Today, Quebec reported 2 deaths: the total since the start of the pandemic is 14,274. There are 1,034 hospitalized patients (-9), of which 50 are in intensive care (+4). 2,111 new cases of coronavirus registered, based on tests reserved for “at risk” groups. The number of new infections therefore represents an underestimate of what the real figure could be. The picture that emerges from the self-declarations made by citizens in the portal activated by the Quebec government, where you can enter the results of do-it-yourself tests performed at home, is clearer: out of 1,013 tests entered today, 875 are positive. Since the portal was activated, 117,040 rapid tests have been self-declared, of which 92,090 were positive. But the active and known cases, officially, are 14,734: a figure that is based only on the molecular tests carried out on the “at risk” categories.
Slight decrease in ordinary hospitalizations also in Manitoba, where on Tuesday (latest data available as we write) the hospitalized for Covid-19 were 380 (Monday they were 388). In intensive care, 24 patients. No new deaths were added: the total from the beginning of the pandemic therefore remains at 1,731. The active and known cases are now 4,913.
