Covid-19 in Ontario, 7% positivity rate
TORONTO – Only one death from Covid-19 and positivity at levels rarely seen since the arrival of the Omicron variant. The situation in Ontario is improving: only one victim was recorded today (64 deaths in the last seven days, 368 in the last 30 days and 13,289 in total since the start of the pandemic).
The total number of people in hospitals with Covid-19 is now 430, of which 116 in intensive care. An increase from the 419 yesterday (and 111 in intensive care), but we should remember that the hospitalizations on Mondays represent an incomplete census as over 10% of hospitals do not load data over the weekend. In reality, therefore, the data is good, given that on the same day last week the number of people hospitalized with Covid-19 was 611, of which 147 in intensive care.
The provincial laboratories, today, processed 6,289 tests, generating a positivity rate of 7%: this is the lowest positivity percentage observed in the province since last February 22nd. The positivity in the past seven days was 7.6%, while for the previous week it was 8.9%. Even this data, therefore, bodes well even if, as we all know, the tests are limited to the “at risk” categories.
However, the trend seems to be downhill: the Covid-19 Science Advisory Table from Ontario states that the presence of the virus in wastewater is decreasing in all regions of the province (except for the North).
468 cases confirmed through tests carried out in the last 24 hours: 66 people not vaccinated or have to vaccinate, 68 people with two doses of the vaccine, 297 people with three or more doses of the vaccine and the vaccination status of the other 35 is not known. The active and known cases in Ontario are now, official, 8,884, up from 9,086 on Sunday. Another positive fact, therefore.
Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign continues. The Ministry of Health announced today that 3,411 doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 were administered on Sunday. Of these, 265 are first doses, 460 are second doses, 623 are third doses and 2,063 are fourth doses. Across all age groups, 84.7% of residents received at least one dose of the vaccine, 81.6% had two doses, and 49.3% had three or more doses.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,308,068 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Ontario and 1,285,895 people have recovered from the disease.
