Covid in Ontario, positivity almost doubled in seven days. More than 1.700 cases in Quebec
TORONTO – Over 1,400 new cases of Covid-19 and another 5 deaths related to the virus, today, in Ontario: the new infections are 1,429, down from 1,536 but up from 928 a week ago. With the increase in the number of cases in the last month, the seven-day moving average continues to rise and reaches 1,400 (a week ago it was 975): it is the highest average since last May 27 when it was 1,441. The positivity rate also reaches a maximum never seen in almost seven months: with 33,400 tests processed it is now at 6.6%, the highest since last May 18 when it was 7.6% (a week ago it was at 3.8 %: almost doubled in seven days).
Of today’s cases in Ontario, 809 were detected in fully vaccinated, 493 unvaccinated, 33 partially vaccinated, and 94 with an unknown vaccination status. Currently, over 85% of Ontarians over the age of five (data on child vaccinations are now available, including Ontario) have received a dose of the vaccine and 80% have received the necessary doses.
Another 930 people have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours: now there are 12,032 active (and known) cases in Ontario. The 5 deaths reported bring the death toll linked to the virus since the beginning of the pandemic, 10,084.
Going back to today’s cases, 239 new cases were reported in Toronto, 103 in the Peel region, 128 in York, 74 in Durham and 58 in Halton in the Greater Toronto Area.
Elsewhere in Ontario, Ottawa reported 120 new cases, while 85 were recorded in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, 84 in Middlesex-London and 68 in Simcoe Muskoka. There are currently 385 people hospitalized in Ontario hospitals with the virus and 162 in intensive care units. 131 of the ICU patients are not fully vaccinated or have unknown vaccination status and 31 are fully vaccinated.
Quebec today reported 1,747 cases out of 32,002 samples analyzed. Of the newly infected, 910 are fully vaccinated and 837 are either unvaccinated or have received a single dose.
Another 7 people died, bringing the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 11,618.
Admissions to the hospitals increase: another 47 people entered in hospitals and only 22 were discharged, bringing the total to 293. Of these, 75 people are in intensive care units, an increase of 2. Of the new patients, 24 are not vaccinated. or received only one dose, 23 received both doses. At present, 88% of the eligible population (ages 5 and up) in Quebec have received both doses, 81% have received two.
