Mississauga cyclist critically injured after hit-and-run
A male cyclist suffers critical life threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning. Following the incident, Constable Heather Cannon of Peel Regional Police, while on scene, told the Corriere that the cyclist, a man in his late 40s, was struck around 5:45am. He was transported to a trauma centre and the status of his condition remains unknown.
The cyclist was struck on Dixie Rd. just south of Rathburn Rd. in Mississauga. Police said the driver was traveling northbound on Dixie Rd when the incident occurred but the driver did not remain on scene.
Police located the driver a short distance away and he was taken into custody. Police did not indicate what charges he may face; however, the driver may likely be charged with failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
Police closed the north and southbound lanes of Dixie Rd. for the investigation. Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police at 905-453-3311.
