Today marks a grim milestone for the Philippines. In one of the worst-hit countries in South-east Asia, Covid-19 infections in the Philippines surpass one million.

In the last 24-hours, the country’s health officials reported nearly 9,000 new cases. The number of Covid-related deaths recorded today increased by 70, bringing the nation’s death toll to 16,853.

Globally, over 147 million cases have confirmed positive for Covid-19 according to Johns Hopkins University data. Since the start of the pandemic, over 126 million people have recovered. Fatalities attributable to Covid-19 now surpass 3.1 million worldwide.
