India sets a new global record as the country reports 379,459 new infections in the last 24-hours. This is the highest single-day increase since the onset of the pandemic.

The devastating surge in cases has overwhelmed the country’s healthcare system and the death toll continues to rise. Since yesterday, the number of Covid-related deaths increased by 3,647, bringing India’s total fatalities to 204,812.

Globally, over 149 million cases have confirmed positive for Covid-19 according to Johns Hopkins University data. Since the start of the pandemic, over 128 million people have recovered. Fatalities attributable to Covid-19 now surpass 3.1 million worldwide.
