TORONTO – And about common acceptance that decisions so arrived are legally binding and enforceable. Thank God that is still the case, despite the disruptive human habit to shrug off decisions we may find personally undesirable. At the very least, talk/debate, replace shooting, stabbing and anarchy. Elections are a “civil substitute” for mayhem and violence.
TORONTO – We are nine days away from the announcement of a provincial budget and a further six from the “dropping of the writs” – the official launch of the election campaign.
On Sunday Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan (in the pic above, from his Twitter profile) has indicated about toppling his government. Apparently that threat came after meeting the Russian President Vladimir Putin at the eve of waging war on Ukraine and he defied a written call for support from the western allies.
TORONTO – At a minimum, MP Vuong now knows he is the centre of attention – for better or for worse. He is definitely the focus of attention for the “holier than thou” evangelists of the new morality. It is an austere, severe collection of critics only a mother could love. →
TORONTO – I respect anyone who puts her/his name on a ballot for election. It is rarely a soft exercise; most often it is at best “rough and tumble”. Our democratic institutions need people prepared to take the hits on our behalf. Democracy is not a process for the feint of heart or for those easily offended. →
