Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – The contagion curve is still falling in Ontario. 458 new cases were registered on Monday and 390 today. Two deaths in the past two days, according to data released only today due to the Thanksgiving holiday. So, for the first time in nearly two months, the daily tally falls below 400 in Ontario. TORONTO – 587 new cases of Covid-19, today, in Ontario: the signs mark an increase compared to the 476 infections recorded on Wednesday (out of 39,460 tests) and to 429 on Tuesday (out of 25,441 tests). With about 37,000 tests processed in the last 24 hours, the province’s positivity rate is around 1.7 percent, like yesterday. (more…)
TORONTO – Three long years but now the nightmare is over. A few hours after the release of Meng Wanzhou, China boarded a plane bound for Calgary Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig Canadian citizens detained in China since 2018. Spavor and Kovrig have returned to Canada after nearly three years in prison in China for espionage. The ‘two Michaels’ boarded just hours after the British Columbia court dismissed the extradition case to the US against Meng Wanzhou. (more…)
TORONTO – The federal elections have not resolved the climate of uncertainty that has characterized Canadian politics since 2019. The tear wanted by Justin Trudeau, with the leap in the dark represented by the early vote during the fourth wave of the pandemic, has not brought clarity in the balance of power between the parties and the political balances to the House of Commons. At the end of this election we find ourselves exactly where we started: with a minority government, with the oppositions too weak to sabotage the political agenda of the liberal prime minister and with a fragmented and divided electorate. LONDON (Canada) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was hit by some gravel on Monday while boarding a campaign bus here in London. The video of the incident was released on the CTV website. It shows that part of the handful of small stones fell into the prime minister and his guards. (more…)
