Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – When the school year resumes Ontario will allow students to participate in “close indoor sports” such as basketball and hockey, and the province does not yet plan to impose COVID-19 vaccinations for educators, staff or students. The Minister of Education of Ontario Stephen Lecce reiterated this today during a press conference: the provincial government will continue to support its immunization campaign, he said, but the mandatory “at the moment” is not taken into account. I am old friends with a recently retired airline crew member of a flag carrier of an Asian country. He does not regret his decision to stay on the ground after 46 years of flying. For once, he does not have to deal with wakefulness at night, inability to sleep long hours during the day, eating breakfast at dinner time, and leaving for early morning flights because of various time zones. With the recent goings in air travel, I’m sure he is just thankful he accepted that prized gold watch given to retiring airline crew. (more…)
Many allergy sufferers may have noticed increased symptoms this year compared to last year. It turns out that it was caused by higher-than-normal pollen levels in the air in some parts of Canada.
A particularly strong pollen explosion occurred in southern Ontario and Quebec. There was a thin layer of yellow pollen that covered most of Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. We could see an unusually large amount of pollen on our cars, perhaps the largest since many years. (more…)
