Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. TORONTO – Health experts have no doubts. Provincial governments are asking Canadians to assess for themselves the risk they run in contracting Covid but at the same time they are reducing the amount of data available. “There is no doubt that people are being provided with less data – said Tara Moriarty, a lecturer at the University of Toronto – it is a decidedly crucial task as people have been made responsible for the personal management of the pandemic”.
TORONTO – 1,188 Covid hospitalizations in Ontario on Saturday, 977 today: a decrease that should not be deceiving, because on Sunday 10% of hospitals do not provide updates. But despite the incompleteness of the data, the number of patients in intensive care is still growing: +5 in 24 hours, with the total going to 173 (+ 4% compared to the previous week), of which 88 are breathing with the help of a fan. On a weekly basis, hospitalizations for (or with) Covid-19 increased by nearly 22%: seven days ago, there were 763 Covid patients in Ontario hospitals. →
TORONTO – The sixth wave of Covid-19 is there, and it shows. Today, Ontario recorded another 10 deaths, bringing the total in the province, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,470. On the other hand, the updated data on hospitalizations due – a provincial health official said – to a scheduled maintenance of the computer systems are not available. But Saturday’s figure is enough to make it clear that the Omicron BA.2 variant is making the numbers rise with impressive speed: 855 people admitted to hospitals in the province, compared to 807 last Thursday and, above all, to 553 of just one week ago (March 28). →
TORONTO – Hospitalizations of Covid inpatients continue to increase in Ontario: today there were 807 people with the virus admitted to hospitals in the province, an increase from 778 yesterday and especially from 661 just a week ago (+ 22%) . Today’s is the highest number of hospitalizations since March 4, when 821 people with the virus were hospitalized. In intensive care there are 166 positive inpatients (yesterday 165, a week ago 165). →
TORONTO – Covid-19, hospitalizations in Ontario are returning to drop, after the surge recorded in recent days: today a total of 553 people were hospitalized in the hospitals of the province, including 157 inpatients in intensive care. Much less, therefore, than the 707 reported on Saturday and 667 on Friday, although it should be remembered that not all hospitals communicate their data on Sundays. →
