TORONTO – Mayors-“Sheriffs”: the new legislation presented in recent weeks by the Ontario government led by Doug Ford is very concerning to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) which is calling for “wide public consultations” before the extension of the powers of the mayors to communities other than those of Toronto and Ottawa for which only, initially, it was foreseen the attribution of greater competences to the first citizens. MONTREAL – In my column last month, I argued that Canada has a major productivity growth issue and seriously needs to consider adopting a comprehensive, multi-year plan to address this issue at its core. We need to find ways of encouraging businesses to invest in new technologies, innovation, and its people. There is no silver bullet or a one-size-fits-all approach to ensuring our economic growth and boosting Canada’s lackluster productivity record, particularly in a post-Covid economy.

June 18 will mark the somber one-year anniversary of the horrific crash in Brampton that killed Karolina Ciasullo and her three innocent children.
