TORONTO – The surge in infections already recorded last week in Ontario shows no sign of decreasing: today the province reported 1,476 new cases of Covid-19 and 8 deaths. Infections were 1,607 on Saturday (the high number in seven months) and on Friday 1,452. The seven-day moving average of daily cases is now 1,236 (Saturday it was 1,194, a week ago 761). →
TORONTO – A hundred fewer cases. Today’s figure of infections in Ontario reassures a little: 552 new infections from Covid-19, down from the disturbing 666 on Sunday but still up from 480 a week ago. In any case, today’s total represents the highest number of cases since last September 27 when 613 new infections were reported. Not only that: the active cases are close to 5 thousand. →
Canada continues its push to close the vaccination gap in certain populations. Even as roughly 80% of eligible Canadians have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, medical experts caution a slow down in that rate leaves a significant gap for variants to take hold.
