Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.

TORONTO – It’s summer time: the call of barbecues (or, for the lucky ones, Caribbean beaches) is too strong and even “Chinese interference” can wait. Thus, on Wednesday, as if nothing had happened, all the parties (including those of the opposition, “hard and pure” until the day before yesterday) agreed to close the doors of the House of Commons starting next Wednesday: we’ll talk about it again in September. TORONTO – After a year of continuous hikes, the “key” interest rate finally stops. In fact, today the Bank of Canada decided to keep it unchanged, while clarifying that it is still ready to raise rates further depending on how the intensity and the economy progress. In any case, for now the official rate of the Canadian central bank remains at 4.5%. (more…)

TORONTO – Oggi, a più di due mesi dal voto, avrà luogo la prima seduta della House of Commons. L’agenda parlamentare di questa settimana di lavoro è già fittissima. Il primo passo istituzionale, che sarà espletato già oggi, è l’elezione del nuovo Speaker della Camera. Stando al regolamento parlamentare, tutti i deputati sono formalmente candidati al ruolo della presidenza della House of Commons a meno che non indichino una volontà contraria. Grande favorito della vigilia è l’italocanadese Anthony Rota, già Speaker nella passata legislatura che gode di un consenso bipartisan che scavalca le tradizionali divisioni di partito…
