TORONTO – The virus does not give up in Ontario: despite the comforting data of the last few weeks, today’s numbers show a growing with another 20 deaths and 779 patients with Covid-19 in the hospitals of the province, down from 914 last week but in sharp increase compared to 693 on Monday and 684 on Sunday. Of the 779 patients currently in hospital, 246 are in intensive care, a number down from the 278 on last Tuesday and also on Monday’s 249. (more…)
TORONTO – The Freedom Convoy protests, which started in Canada from Ottawa, are spreading like wildfire in 34 countries around the world including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Argentina, Austria, Cyprus, New Zealand, Australia. The capital of Canada, where truck drivers arrived in large numbers on January 29, continues to be besieged by a hundred protesters. Today, shouting “Freedom!” and “Fake news!” a group of trucks reached Ottawa International Airport causing traffic disruptions and delays.
TORONTO – Fewer tampons, fewer cases. The drop in new infections recorded today, 887 against 1,184 on Sunday, bodes well for only a few seconds: the time to look at the number of tests performed, that is 25,981 against 31,735 on Sunday. The positivity rate, in fact, rises from 3.2% to 3.5% in twenty-four hours and the moving average of daily cases calculated over seven days is now equal to 940, an increase both compared to today (926) and compared to as of a week ago (783). Three deaths were also recorded today, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in Ontario to 10,027. (more…)
TORONTO – No turnaround. The alarm launched by the director of the Ontario Science Advisory Table Peter Juni following the constant increase in Covid-19 infections in the province did not go well. Today the Minister of Health Christine Elliott intervened on the issue and made it clear that everything is under control, the reopening plan will not change. “An increase in cases was predicted with the arrival of cold weather since people spend more time at home, and this was taken into account by the province,” she said.
