TORONTO – The idyll between Canada and immigrants is over. The numbers say it. In fact, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship says that Statistics Canada data indicate a 30% drop in the adoption of citizenship since 2001. Let’s see to what extent: in 2021, only 45.7% of permanent residents who resided in Canada from less than ten years became a citizen. A drop, compared to 60% in 2016 and 75.1% in 2001. (more…)
TORONTO – The pressure on the Ontario health system is easing: in one week, hospitalizations of people infected with Covid-19 dropped by 35%. Now 526 people with the virus are in hospital, 114 of them in intensive care. Yesterday they were 430 (116 in ICU), but last week, on the same day, they were 808 (140 in intensive care). Hospitalizations in Ontario have now been declining for several weeks, following the peak of the sixth wave of 1,730 inmates in late April. (more…)
TORONTO – The federal Liberals have dropped their nominated candidate, Kevin Vuong in the downtown Toronto riding of Spadina-Fort York, and he will not be a member of their party’s caucus if he is elected Monday, after the Toronto Star revealed that he was charged with sexual assault of a woman in 2019, who actually told the Crown prosecutor in the case that she “didn’t have the energy” to proceed with a trial process but maintained her allegations are true.
