TORONTO – The deadline for Ontario’s long-term care homes was set for tomorrow to be fully immunized against Covid-19 but the government has decided to postpone it until December 13. This was announced by the spokesperson of the Minister of Long Term Care Rod Phillips Vanessa De Matteis: by today, however, the staff of these houses must receive at least the first dose of the vaccine. The stand-off between Ontario’s optometrists and the provincial government continues with no end in sight. Since September 1, nearly 95% of the province’s 2,500 optometrists have stopped performing OHIP-funded services for people under the age of 20, seniors aged 65 and over and individuals on disability.
Earlier this month, the Ontario government offered a one-time payment of $39 million to indicate a “starting point” in support of optometrists and to further discussions along. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Health (MOH) told the Corriere that, “payments will flow to optometrists across Ontario on October 15”.
TORONTO – New federal crackdown on mandatory vaccination. Starting from October 30, all civil servants and those traveling by plane, train or ship aged 12 and over will have to be vaccinated against Covid-19. The turning point was announced today by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his deputy Christya Freeland, following a measure that had already been presented during the electoral campaign that preceded the vote on September 20.
