Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Exactly two years ago, on January 25, 2020, the first case of Covid-19 in Canada was identified at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Since then, the virus has “pulled straight” despite protective gear, restrictions and even vaccines. Today, the second sad “anniversary” of Covid-19 in Canada, another 64 deaths were recorded in Ontario, bringing the total, from that fateful day that marked the beginning of the pandemic in Canada, to 11,068. →
TORONTO – First snow of the season, today, in Toronto which woke up all white. According to data from Environment Canada, many areas of the GTA received between five and eight centimeters of snow on Sunday morning while two to five more were expected between the afternoon and evening. →
TORONTO – More than two months before the vote, the first session of the House of Commons will take place tomorrow. The parliamentary agenda for this week of work is already well defined. The first institutional step, which will be carried out tomorrow, is the election of the new Speaker of the Chamber. According to the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, all MPs are formally candidates for the presidency of the House of Commons unless they indicate a will to the contrary. The big favorite on the eve is the Italian Canadian Anthony Rota, already Speaker in the past legislature who enjoys a bipartisan consensus that bypasses the traditional party divisions. →
TORONTO – Songs, drums, speeches, dances. But also painful testimonies and tears. For the first time in its history, Canada celebrated The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation yesterday. A day, that of yesterday, established by Ottawa last June 3 to commemorate the tragic and painful history of residential schools, to remember the dead children and those who survived, their families and communities. →
