Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
OTTAWA – As Ottawa prepares for the arrival of the Veterans for Freedom tomorrow, Canada Day, according to information obtained by Radio-Canada and CBC, one of the judges who presided over the court hearings of the organizers of the Freedom Convoy received serious threats to the point of requiring police intervention.
PHILADELPHIA – Statues are being demolished almost everywhere now (even in Afghanistan) but in some cases the law intervenes – where the law exists and is valid – to prevent it from happening. In fact, on Tuesday, a judge ruled that the statue of Christopher Columbus in Marconi Plaza in South Philadelphia must remain where it is, thus rejecting the decision of the City of Philadelphia to remove it. A decision Mayor Jim Kenney made to stop the continuing fighting around the statue of Columbus between opposing factions and to “find a way to allow Philadelphia to celebrate their heritage and culture, while respecting the stories and stories of others who come from different backgrounds “. TORONTO – Lecce may yet succeed in his plan to eliminate Catholic Schools as a system. He does not appear disposed “to take any prisoners”. Caught in the middle of a legal case laden with Constitutional issues (Provincial rights, Religious freedom, Rights of Roman Catholics and the [potential] abuse of office by a Minister) between Trustee Del Grande and the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), his Ministry played the “Calendar Game” hoping for the next availability of a “ favourable” judge.
