Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Everything as before. The outcome of the 2021 elections does not change the balance of power that characterized the last legislature by a comma. We will have, just as in the last two years, a Liberal minority government led by Justin Trudeau, in his third term after the victories of 2015 and 2019. In support of the new executive there will be 158 deputies compared to the 157 elected in the previous electoral round. (more…)
TORONTO – The federal Liberals have dropped their nominated candidate, Kevin Vuong in the downtown Toronto riding of Spadina-Fort York, and he will not be a member of their party’s caucus if he is elected Monday, after the Toronto Star revealed that he was charged with sexual assault of a woman in 2019, who actually told the Crown prosecutor in the case that she “didn’t have the energy” to proceed with a trial process but maintained her allegations are true. The electoral district of Honoré-Mercier in Quebec appears poised for another Liberal victory. Formerly known as Anjou-Rivière-des-Prairies, it is located east of the constituencies of Bourassa and Saint-Léonard – Saint-Michel and includes parts of the city of Montréal.

The electoral district of Saint-Léonard – Saint-Michel, formerly Saint-Léonard, is located in the City of Montreal, east of the constituency of Bourassa. With a population of 113,210 residents, it is home to a number of culturally diverse ethnic groups.
According to Statistics Canada, in 2016, the most current data available, Italians make up 23% of the constituents in the district. That translates into 25,510 residents, one of the largest concentrations of Italians in Quebec.
The constituency of Humber River-Black Creek is located at the northern edge of the Toronto city limits between the districts of York Centre and Etobicoke-North. Prior to 2015, the area was known as York West. It was changed to its current name following a riding redistribution process.
The area is comprised of a diverse population with people originating from several different ethnic backgrounds . According to Statistics Canada, in 2016 (most current data available), Italians make up a significant portion of the population, at 13%. (more…)
