Elections in Ontario, we will have a long election campaign

TORONTO – Let’s fasten our seat belts and get ready: in Ontario we will have to see a very long election campaign. Which, incidentally, has already begun a few weeks ago, from September 21 to be precise, the day after the federal elections. Pounding commercials on TV, radio, on the Internet and on social media, announcements on unlikely investments, promises, pacts with voters, plans for the future, slogans, all seasoned with accusations, controversies and poisons: June 2, 2022 is a date still far away, but already in recent weeks we have had a taste of what, willy-nilly, is waiting for us.  (more…)

Canadian Ministers: “We will help the Afghans as long as possible”

OTTAWA – Over 1,100 people already evacuated and the promise of “tireless” work to continue ripping people out of conflict-ravaged Afghanistan “as long as it is safe to do so”. This, in a nutshell, is what emerged from today’s press conference which saw four ministries of the Trudeau government intervene on the Afghan question. Maryam Monsef (Women), Marco Mendicino (Immigration), Harjit Sajjan (Defense) and Marc Garneau (Foreign Affairs) took stock of the situation, answering questions from journalists. (more…)

Kamloops: Another formal apology long overdue

On Sunday, Pope Francis expressed shock and sorrow after “the discovery in Canada of the remains of 215 children, pupils of the Kamloops Indian Residential School in the province of British Columbia”.

During his weekly address to the crowd in Saint Peter’s Square Sunday afternoon, the Pope said he “joins the Canadian Bishops and the whole Catholic Church in Canada in expressing his closeness to the Canadian people who have been traumatized by the shocking news.” (more…)

Long Term Care, McGeer: “Proposals ignored because they are expensive”

[GTranslate]TORONTO – Hire thousands of personal support workers (PSW) and place infection control specialists in long-term care homes, – as has been done in Quebec – a system to allow hospitals to support the long-term care industry and to ensure seniors don’t have to share a room in three or four. These are some of the various proposals Ontario doctors have made to protect LTC residents but which the government has rejected “as too expensive.” (more…)
