Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
OTTAWA – Senate Chamber: an elder Inuk lights the qulliq, the traditional Inuit lamp that represents the light and warmth of family and community. And the Aboriginal Mary Simon, 73, “accompanied” in the Senate by the rhythm of a group of Inuit percussionists, after walking the red carpet to the applause, pronounces her first words: “I am honored, honored and ready to be the Canada’s first indigenous Governor-General”. TORONTO – Mary Simon (nella foto) è la nuova Governatrice Generale del Canada. Ad annunciarlo è stato ieri Justin Trudeau, che con la nomina della nuova rappresentante della Regina ha voluto mandare un segnale politico molto preciso. Simon infatti è una leader Inuk, rappresentante delle popolazioni indigene del Canada e la sua nomina arriva in un periodo di ripensamento generale della storia del nostro Paese, in particolare del trattamento riservato in passato dal governo federale agli aborigeni. TORONTO – Mary Simon (in the pic) is Canada’s new Governor General. This was announced today by Justin Trudeau, who, with the appointment of the Queen’s new representative, wanted to send out a very precise political signal. Simon is in fact an Inuk leader, representative of the indigenous peoples of Canada and his appointment comes at a time of general rethinking of the history of our country, in particular the federal government’s treatment of Aboriginal people in the past.
