Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
OTTAWA – Tribute to Joe Comuzzi, former minister who passed away on New Year’s Eve. As per the Rules for Half-masting the National Flag of Canada (Section 7), the flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments in the City of Thunder Bay were flown at half-mast since yesterday until sunset on January 5, 2022, the day of the funeral of Hon. Comuzzi.
TORONTO – An “explosive” growth, as the office of the Ontario Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, defined it: today provincial health officials recorded the presence of 2,081 people hospitalized for Covid-19 (288 are in intensive care), with an impressive jump, in just 24 hours, from the 1,290 patients of which 266 in the intensive care unit) on Tuesday – numbers moreover partial, given that the minister herself reported that about 10% of hospitals did not report the number of their patients. Anyway a worrying figure, as well as that of deaths, as many as 14 in a single day, which bring the total of victims in Ontario, from the beginning of the pandemic, to 10,252. →
OTTAWA – The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, will travel to Guatemala to meet with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and high level representatives from Central American countries and the United States. →
TORONTO – Hope, to eradicate Covid-19 among children, is placed in the vaccine. This was reiterated today – just a day after Pfizer formally asked Health Canada to approve its vaccine for use in children between the ages of five and 11 – by Health Minister Christine Elliott. As soon as the green light arrives, Elliott said clearly, we will be “ready to go”: “We are actively working with public health units to draw up a plan for the administration of the vaccine, we will be ready – as soon as it is approved by Health Canada – to distribute it and make it available to children throughout the province – said the minister – I know that parents are worried but they do not have to be because we will be ready, we are actively working on this and are in the process of finalizing the plan right now.” →
