TORONTO – The sixth wave of Covid-19 may have peaked, but the impact of this weekend’s family gatherings at Easter could have an impact. This is what the director of the Ontario Technical Scientific Table Peter Juni says.
TORONTO – Strong, sudden surge in Covid hospitalizations in Ontario: from 1,090 hospitalized on Monday to 1,366 today (+276). The last time the hospitalization count had exceeded that figure dates back to last February 16 when, during the first wave of Omicron (and fifth of the pandemic), the beds occupied by patients with the virus were 1,403. The number of people admitted to intensive care has also increased: from 184 to 190 in 24 hours. (more…)
TORONTO – Canada must increase its military spending until it reaches its NATO agreement quota. This was requested today by the Conservative Party, on the eve of the presentation of the federal budget scheduled for tomorrow at the House of Commons. Kerry-Lynne Findlay, conservative shadow Defence minister, said: “It is time for Canada to contribute its fair share to NATO. But Saturday’s figure is enough to make it clear that the Omicron BA.2 variant is making the numbers rise with impressive speed: 855 people admitted to hospitals in the province, compared to 807 last Thursday and, above all, to 553 of just one week ago (March 28). TORONTO – Hospitalizations from and with Covid-19 in Ontario continue to grow: today in the province’s hospitals there were 778 people, down from 790 yesterday, even a sharp increase compared to 611 a week ago. 165 patients in intensive care (92 with ventilators to breathe), the same number as yesterday. As for infections, 2,814 were recorded today but, due to the limitation of texts to “at risk” categories only, according to experts that the real number of infections could be about 10 times that figure.
