Covid-19, a new surge in cases and hospitalizations

TORONTO – New leap forward in hospitalizations today in Ontario: 1,126 people in hospital with Covid-19, compared to 1,074 just 24 hours earlier. The last time the count was so high was on February 19, when the number of inpatients was 1,191. On the other hand, the number of patients in intensive care fell, from 168 yesterday to 159 today. But the number of pandemic deaths remains high: another 16 today, bringing the total in Ontario from the beginning to 12,527. 

Canada launches new temporary residence pathway to welcome those fleeing the war in Ukraine

OTTAWA – “To the Ukrainians who are defending the values we hold dear, we stand with you—not only in our words, but also in our actions. Canada will offer safe haven to your families while you fight on the front lines of a war to defend your freedom to the benefit of the entire world”: with these words, Sean Fraser (in the pic, from his Twitter profile), Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced today the launch of the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). The CUAET is a special, accelerated temporary residence pathway for Ukrainians seeking safe haven in Canada while the war in their home country continues.

TORONTO – The hospitalizations decrease almost every day, the positivity rate as well but there is a number that never goes down, in the daily Covid-19 data: that of deaths. Today in Ontario, 41 were registered and, even if the Ministry of Health is keen to emphasize that most of these are “earlier” deaths, the data cannot fail to worry and in any case raises the tragic death toll in the province, from the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,347.
