World Press Freedom Day, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, was observed on May 3rd this year. This year’s theme is the title of this piece. It serves as “a call to affirm the importance of cherishing information as a public good, and exploring what can be done in the production, distribution and reception of content to strengthen journalism, and to advance transparency and empowerment while leaving no one behind”. Public Outcry Over Foreign Influence Should Pave the Way for Much Needed Electoral Reform

Canadian political parties of all stripes have long oscillated between the urge to tap into Canada’s immigrant communities, and an opposing instinct to turn inward and rebuff such influences. In a recent CBC report, April 13, 2021, Liberal MP David McGuinty, head of the National Security Intelligence Committee (NSICOP), said that state actors are looking to join political parties to ‘exert influence’. Ontario’s “Sunshine List”: Public sector salary disclosure

On March 19, Ontario released the annual list of public sector employees who earned more than $100,000 in 2020, otherwise known as the “Sunshine List”.

In a statement following the release of names on the list, the official opposition highlights the fact that seventeen people are among the top income earners, with an annual salary over $700,000. Among the top earners are six executives from Ontario Power Generation.

Public attitudes towards Covid-19 vaccines around the world

People’s attitudes towards vaccines vary based on a number of factors including their concerns, their values and their lifestyles. GWI (GlobalWebIndex), a company providing market research and insight to agencies around the world, collected research data from various countries to gauge public perception towards the Covid-19 vaccine.
