Bank of Canada raises the interest rate again: +0.75%

OTTAWA – Here we go again. The Bank of Canada will raise its benchmark interest rate by 0.75% on Wednesday: a new increase, therefore, after the 0.50% increase on June 1, when the rate was raised to 1.50. %. From Wednesday, it will be at 2.25%. The reason, as always, is that of the “fight against inflation” which in recent weeks has reached its highest level in almost 40 years: 7.7 per cent.

Covid-19 in Ontario: deaths, hospitalizations and the rate of positivity are decreasing

TORONTO – Covid-19 hospitalizations in Ontario and the rest of Canada are falling significantly. The trend of the last few weeks is therefore confirmed, negative only in terms of deaths: their number in fact has always been high and only in the last few days has there been a sharp decline – both in Ontario and Quebec – which, hopefully, will be confirmed in the week just started. Ontario, fewer cases but the positivity rate remains high

TORONTO – Ontario can breathe, at least for 24 hours: after the 636 new cases registered on Sunday – the highest number of infections in a single day in almost a month – today the province registered 480 new infections, more in line with last week’s Monday’s 422, albeit far above the 326 of two weeks ago. The seven-day moving average of is now 476: a week ago it was 362.  (more…)

Ontario: 417 new Covid-cases but the positivity rate drops

TORONTO – Covid-19 in Ontario: 417 new cases today, a slight increase compared to the previous day (306) but also below the seven-day average. In addition, 35,421 tests were processed in the previous 24 hours (and another 18,914 are being processed), while yesterday there were far fewer: 23,219. The positivity to the test, therefore, drops to 1.5%. Yesterday (and last week) it was 1.7%.  (more…)
