With the cost of living on the rise, more Canadians are turning to food banks for support. According to a new report, HungerCount 2021 by Food Banks Canada, in March of 2021, more than 1.3 million Canadians visited food banks. Nationally, the demand for food banks increased by 20% compared to March 2019, the steepest rise since the 2008 economic recession.

TORONTO – Cases in Ontario returned to increase within twenty-four hours but the daily average drops thanks to the good numbers of the last few days: today, provincial health officials recorded 677, up from 463 on Wednesday but significantly lower than to 864 on last Thursday. The seven-day moving average of new infections therefore still drops to 665, down from a week ago (732). →

TORONTO – The escalation continues: after the 486 cases on Tuesday and 660 on Wednesday, Ontario today recorded 678 new cases of Covid-19, of which 395 were found in unvaccinated people, 82 in partially vaccinated people and 141 in people fully vaccinated (for the remaining people the vaccination status is unknown). Of the new cases, 144 were recorded in Toronto, 102 in the Peel region, 97 in the York region, 78 in Windsor-Essex and 51 in the Durham region. All other local health units reported fewer than 50 new cases. →
