TORONTO – It took a couple of weeks for me to finally connect with Abuna Fr. Mario Cornioli. He leads the Saint [Mar] Youssef Christian Community Centre in Amman Jordan. We finally succeeded in overcoming the technological obstacles (and my incompetencies in the new means of communication) but, Inshalla, I finally reached Fr. Mario, just days after the Royal Wedding of the Crown Prince.
TORONTO – Talking about a new (nth) wave of Covid-19 is perhaps premature, but the signs are all there: in recent weeks we had witnessed a rising of hospitalizations but the small number of swabs performed (reserved only for “at risk” categories) “) had not allowed an exhaustive tracing of the infections. TORONTO – After the weekend “break”, the numbers relating to hospitalizations in Ontario return to rise: today there were 1,455 patients in hospitals (1,362 on Sunday), of which 219 in intensive care (compared to 212 on Sunday): in the end moreover, some hospitals do not disclose their data during the week. TORONTO – House prices in Toronto are rising again. On an annual basis, the increase is almost 20% according to the analysis of TRREB, Toronto Regional Real Estate Board. Reason: Prospective homebuyers in the Greater Toronto Area found significantly fewer homes on the market last month than they did a year ago, thereby driving down sales and, consequently, raising the prices of the few properties available. TORONTO – A friend once commented on the price of a Big Mac, that if you eat it regularly, like once a week, you don’t notice the price increase because it’s in the cents. But, if you order it, say, once every six months, or in my case, in a gap of almost two years because of the pandemic, you feel the crunch, as I did when I ordered two Big Mac meals three weeks ago. I paid $23 and some cents! My friend then added, it’s good if you have the coupon because you pay just a little over half of the regular price. The question that begs answering is, how often does Big Mac come up with coupons. (more…)
