TORONTO – Compared to a month ago, there are more than twice as many active cases of Covid-19 associated with Ontario’s public schools. The Ministry of Education has in fact communicated that with the 178 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in a 24-hour period, the total number of active infections has reached 1,879. This is an 18% increase week after week and is more than double the number of active infections associated with schools in this period last month: 913. Overall, since the beginning of the school year, there are now 8,280 infections: at this point in the school year in 2020 there were 5,420. →
TORONTO – Of the 331 new Covid-19 infections detected today in Ontario, 144 are linked to schools. The Ministry of Education has reported that there have been 123 new infections among students, 20 new infections in staff and a new case in a non-teaching member. →
TORONTO – Hope, to eradicate Covid-19 among children, is placed in the vaccine. This was reiterated today – just a day after Pfizer formally asked Health Canada to approve its vaccine for use in children between the ages of five and 11 – by Health Minister Christine Elliott. As soon as the green light arrives, Elliott said clearly, we will be “ready to go”: “We are actively working with public health units to draw up a plan for the administration of the vaccine, we will be ready – as soon as it is approved by Health Canada – to distribute it and make it available to children throughout the province – said the minister – I know that parents are worried but they do not have to be because we will be ready, we are actively working on this and are in the process of finalizing the plan right now.” →
TORONTO – The news that in the coming weeks there would be cuts to the teaching staff of the Toronto Caholic District School Board (TCDSB) to parents just did not go down. Today, a group of mothers and fathers of the students of the schools of the Catholic Board organized a protest that started in front of the Saint Pius X Catholic School which is located near Jane and Bloor Street. →
TORONTO – It is a constant growth that of Covid-19 cases in ontario schools where with the last 121 infections last Friday, the total, after about two weeks of attendance, is 619. The latest outbreak is the one that broke out at Elmlea Junior School in Etobicoke – Rexdale and Islington district – where at least two cases have been reported. →
