Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.

On Sunday, health officials in Mexico logged 5,051 new infections. The total number of confirmed positive cases now surpass 2.5 million. Of the cumulative total, 79.4% are considered recovered. Since yesterday, Covid-related deaths increased by 175, bringing the country’s total fatalities to 232,521.

On Saturday, health officials in Poland logged 100 new infections, the lowest single day increase since the start of the pandemic. Of the cumulative 2.8 confirmed positive cases, 92.1% are considered recovered. Since yesterday, Covid-related deaths increased by 21, bringing the country’s total fatalities to 74,974.

On Friday, for the second day in a row, Russian health officials logged just over 20,000 new infections, numbers not seen in nearly five months. Total confirmed positive cases now surpass 5.4 million. Of the cumulative total, 91.1% are considered recovered. Since yesterday, Covid-related deaths increased by 601, close to the highest number of deaths reported in one day, 635, on December 24, 2020. (more…)

Of the cumulative 5.3 million confirmed positive cases, 91.2% are considered recovered. Since yesterday, Covid-related deaths increased by 586 bringing the country’s death toll to 131,463.

On Wednesday, health officials in the UK logged 16,135 new infections, the highest single day increase in nearly four months. The sharp rise in cases prompted a delay in the country’s final stage of reopening until July 19. Of the cumulative total, 92.3% are considered recovered.
