Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – The Omicron variant already present in Canada and the upcoming holiday holidays do not worry Prime Minister Doug Ford at all. “There is no need for Ontario to expand access to Covid-19 testing,” he reiterated following increasing pressure to have these tests used by more people and in schools in the province. TORONTO – Covid-19 and school. The bond, this year, seems to be stronger than in 2020. It is the numbers that give us the picture of the situation: last year at the end of October, 1,966 cases were detected in public schools since the beginning of the school year. This year the infections in the same period of time are as many as 4,454. The fault, say the doctors, is to be attributed to the variant of the Delta coronavirus that some scientists have discovered to be contagious like chickenpox. (more…)
TORONTO – More tests and fewer cases: what emerges from today’s data on the progress of the pandemic in Ontario is a good sign. 269 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded, the lowest number since last August 5 (213). Today is also the fourth consecutive day of decline: Friday 492, Saturday 373, Sunday 370 and Monday 326 out of 18,397 tests processed against 21,800 today: the positivity rate is 1.5%. The noticeable daily drop in infections also lowered the seven-day moving average to 364 from 407 a week ago. (more…)
TORONTO – Crackdown on the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB). Unvaccinated teachers risk being suspended without pay if they do not undergo the mandatory rapid tests for Covid-19, and as of today, employees will not be able to enter the facilities owned by the school board. (more…)
TORONTO – Even today Ontario recorded almost 600 new cases of Covid-19 (and 5 deaths), but there is finally good news: today’s 593 infections were detected on 33,220 tests, the highest number, for over three months, of swabs analyzed. Only on 4 June last, in fact, more tests had been processed than today: 32,258. (more…)
