Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – David Johnston’s resignation pushes Canada’s political class on their heels and disrupts both the government and the opposition. The decision by the former Governor General of Canada to relinquish the post of independent Special Rapporteur in the controversial story of Chinese interference has created a sort of short circuit in Ottawa. The Prime Minister will be forced to indicate the next steps to untangle this complicated mess.
TORONTO – There are five months to the provincial vote, but in Ontario the election campaign has already begun and continues unabated. The government led by Prime Minister Doug Ford in recent days has given way to the Scientific Technical Committee and Chief Medical Officer Kieran Moore and has started a chain ad campaign that have so much the flavor of electoral promises. TORONTO – The federal elections have not resolved the climate of uncertainty that has characterized Canadian politics since 2019. The tear wanted by Justin Trudeau, with the leap in the dark represented by the early vote during the fourth wave of the pandemic, has not brought clarity in the balance of power between the parties and the political balances to the House of Commons. At the end of this election we find ourselves exactly where we started: with a minority government, with the oppositions too weak to sabotage the political agenda of the liberal prime minister and with a fragmented and divided electorate. TORONTO – The last week of the election campaign opens along the lines of the common thread that is characterizing the path that leads us to the polls: that of uncertainty. The latest polls, carried out after the two televised debates of 8 and 9 September between the leaders of the parties, have confirmed that the Liberals and Conservatives are engaged in a tight head-to-head, with the neo-Democrats in difficulty and with an impressive growth to the right of Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party. TORONTO – The second week of the election campaign brings with it the unknowns and the grey areas of the first. Confirming the climate of uncertainty that is accompanying the approach to the appointment at the polls on September 20th comes the new Ipsos poll that certifies that the outcome of the early elections is far from decided. On the contrary, the volatility of the electorate is much higher than in the past and, ultimately, the choice of the great mass of undecided will be the real needle in the balance at the polls.
