Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
GENEVE – NEW YORK – A joint statement from UNICEF, UNFPA, and WHO: “Stop attacks on health care in Ukraine”. The appeal, signed by Catherine Russell (Executive Director UNICEF), Natalia Kanem (Executive Director UNFPA) and Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (Director-General WHO), was published today. MONTREAL – Here comes the “health tax” for the unvaccinated. Basically: if you don’t get vaccinated, you end up burdening the health system, so it’s right that you pay. This was announced today by the premier of Quebec, François Legault, in light of the continuous increase in hospitalizations (and deaths, only today: 62 in Quebec) in the hospitals of the province.
In a week apart both China and the United States of America have launched “Democracy” conferences. Apparently not invited to President Biden’s democracy summit; China had its propaganda blitz.
TORONTO – This past week was an interesting week on the COVID 19 front from many perspectives but the most intriguing for me was the news that the current director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) is running again for a 5 year term. The current Director-General (in the pic, from www.who.int) in my opinion as head of the WHO has just been part of a Global Failure and yet he is seeking another 5-year appointment, which to-date is uncontested.
